NEWS

MAY 2005 – Since the Moody broadcast in December we have been hard at work on the Road Home plan. Countless hours of dreaming and planning, advice-seeking, prayer and meetings have been logged, and the consensus seems to be that this is a ministry that is long overdue.

In April John Thompson traveled to Gospel Music Week in Nashville to share the vision with as many artists, industry types and pastors as he could. The overwhelming response was that yes, this was an idea whose time has come. Thompson is finishing work on a children’s record for Gotee / Tooth and Nail and is making preparations for the 23rd annual Cornerstone Festival in July, and a missions trip to Prague shortly thereafter. But as of May first he has committed all of his available time to getting the Road Home Chaplaincy off the ground.

The first phase is well underway. Over forty (and climbing daily,) information packets have been sent to churches, businesses and individuals seeking financial and prayer support as well as ideas and experiences. The goal is to secure enough funding for Thompson to work full time on Road Home come June. The first actual “chaplaining” will happen at the Cornerstone Festival with several ministers who have been serving artists for years coming to “be there” for the over 300 artists at that event!

Please keep the ministry in your prayers, and if you, or anyone you know, would like to support the Road Home Chaplains Service financially please email John J. Thompson or Joe Paskewich.

12/02/2004 – Following his address to the Moody Bible Institute student body at their Dec 1st 2004 chapel service, John J. Thompson was interviewed by Greg Wheatley for the Moody Broadcasting Network’s “Prime Time America” program. John and Greg spoke about John’s book Raised By Wolves; The Story of Christian Rock and Roll and the history of the relationship between the arts and the Christian church. Though the interview was a surprise opportunity, it served as the first public discussion of the vision of the Road Home Chaplains Service for artists. The interview was taped for future broadcast, and Road Home has not yet been notified when that will be.
